I wanted to take a moment to post yet another thank you. This thank you goes to Whitetails Unlimited, Mike Johnson, and attendees. Last night, September 13th, 2018, I attended the Whitetails Unlimited Banquet at Castle Hill Supper Club near Merrillan, WI. I went with my brother-in-law Paul Steele and sister Rachel Steele. My Aunt Rita Williams once again was amazing and came to stay with the kids while Sarah was sleeping before work. Now, a while back Paul had asked me if I wanted to go to the banquet. I had told him that I would like to but due to the transplant and everything it probably would not happen this year.
Sometime last week Mike Johnson had called my house phone to seek out Paul’s number reference the banquet. Fast forward to Wednesday this week, Paul called me and said I was going and he already had tickets. He also said that Mike Johnson had needed his number to speak to him about a large item he won that would need to be transported from the banquet, but he did not know what he had won. So I went. The food was great as usual, the raffles and everything were awesome, as usual too. For the ticket, aside from the food, you also received a hat and a knife. Now, there were three of us, but only two hats and knives. I found this odd, but my sister said she did not want a hat or a knife, hence there being only two. On top of this, I went to fill out my number on some raffle tickets, and I did not have a number. Paul went to speak to Mike, and I was told 67A would be my number (Paul’s was 67). No one else had letters in their number, which I also found to be a bit odd. I had also noticed Mike take Rachel aside and speak to her privately for a moment. I thought all of this was odd, but I did not put any of it together until…
For the past several years they have been doing a Friends in Need raffle. This year they had a gun and a custom-made knife to raffle off. Well, apparently I was the Friend in Need. Mike Johnson announced this, disclosing that I was completely unaware, which was true. He had me stand so everyone could see who I am, with many not knowing who I was. Just in the knick of time (I almost burst into tears) Mike then asked Rachel to come up and speak about the situation, and she did ever so graciously. She even spoke of how well my Aunt Nancy Larson (MY AMAZING DONOR!!!) is doing after transplant and how she went home so quickly. Yet another testament of how EASY it can be to save a life!
They then proceeded with the raffle. I even had a couple people come up and speak with me, with one gentleman who spoke about his daughter needing a kidney transplant about 10 years ago, and one of her brothers coming through for her. Awesome!
In the end, it resulted in $1,870 being donated to me and my family. How amazing! I cannot express how much gratitude I have for those who participated in the raffle. I have a hard time with speaking sometimes, especially in this kind of situation, and I hope everyone knows how grateful my family and I are for your generosity. With everything going on in the world today, you certainly do not have to look far to find GOOD PEOPLE!
